Here is the wild idea that I along with a friend submitted in the crystal ball competition in our office and won prize :-)
================================
In today’s world, computer science has gone to the extent where human-voice is understood by machines, through voice recognition. However, there are still a set of milestones, which technology hasn't advanced to! There are still queries in the human mind, which technology hasn't catered to!
How often have you accidentally pressed the wrong key and expected the computer to perform the task you had in the back of your mind? How often have you visualized nice beautiful things in your dreams and expected that the same could be recorded and played as and when desired? How often have you seen a pile of things lined-up before you and wished to have the backlog cleared in a whisker of a moment?
There are number of things in the world that you feel could happen in response to what you think, rather than in response to any physical stimulus. Imaginative things would come true someday, if there would be something that could turn imaginations to reality, or at least when there is something which acts as an interpreter to our imagination to the machine world. An entity which could convert thoughts/wishes to reality is what is termed as a “wish-daemon”. The working of the wish-daemon would be dependent on the kind of interacting entities. That is to say, in a human machine interaction, a wish-client would be installed in the human brain and a “wish-daemon” would be running in the machine to be interacted with. Whenever the human makes a wish, the wish-client would send the appropriate signals to a transmitter, which would in turn detect the server to which the wish is targeted to and would consequently serve the client.
Look at some applications…
a. You are in the midst of your vacation and suddenly you realize that you had to back up some important data before you left, which somehow slipped out of your mind. With the advent of the “wish-daemon” you can take the backup, as a commandment of your wish, irrespective of where you are currently. That is to say, you just wish that the backup should be taken, the wish-daemon would take over thereon, update the appropriate servers with the task and there it is, when you are back to office, you find that the data was indeed backed up!
b. You are in the root directory of a Unix box and you entered the 'rm -rf' command. You realize the mistake after hitting the Enter key. Just wish that the command should be terminated instantaneously and the command terminates. That’s the beauty of the “wish-daemon”.
c. You are to groom your house, wherein there is a pile-up of mess in front of you. Here a wish-client in your brain will signal the “wish-daemon” in a machine like a vacuum cleaner or a robot. Now, you may close your eyes, wish that the pile be cleared off, open your eyes and see the magic!
Further let’s expand this “wish-daemon” from human-machine interaction to human-human interaction. The applications we are referring to are 'dream taper' and ‘mind reader’. Sounds interesting, isn’t it?
Imagine husband taps wife’s dream and presents it even before her demand! Father taps kid’s dreams and he gets his dream toy next day morning! But with regards kids, something like SAN storage would be needed to be installed along with the daemon to accommodate the multitude of wishes!
A mind-reader is just another splendid example of the “wish-daemon” application, whereby 2 wish-daemons interact with each other and you can decode what the person in front of you is thinking at a given instant of time.
Things to consider are what are the compatible 'platforms' for this daemon? A wish-daemon is primarily meant for a stable mind. Wish-daemon is not meant for an unstable mind; since there would be so many wishes going against each other that it may lead to a core dump. The equivalent of a core dump in our nervous system is a nervous breakdown, which no one would have in their wish-list.
Wish there was a wish-daemon which would fulfill our wish of winning this competition!
